How to apply
Interested in one of the projects? Please follow the procedure below to get more information.
Disclaimer: Please note that some organisations do not send volunteers to all projects listed on this web page. Contact your local organisation to get a list of the volunteering positions for which you may apply.
- Find a local SCI organisation in your country on branch locator
- Use the LTV (Long Term Volunteering) email to contact the
organisation. If no LTV email address is provided, use the general
email address. In your email, include the name of the project you
are interested in as well as possible questions. The organisation
will contact you to discuss your participation in this project, to
provide further information if needed and to eventually provide you
the application form. Note that depending on your sending/hosting
organisation and the type of project the financial burden to take
part in a long term project is more or less important. In the worst
case you have to pay for:
- a membership fee to the sending organisation
- an inscription fee to the sending organisation to process your application
- travel costs
- visa fees
- vaccination fees and health insurance
- a membership fee to the hosting organisation
- fee to the hosting project and/or cover your accommodation costs
- If you do not get a reply to your email within the week, or if you
could not find an organisation in your country, please contact the
long term exchange group at lteg(at)scimail.org. Don't forget to
mention the following points in your email:
- Which country are you from?
- Did you find an SCI organisation in your country? If so, when did you write to them?
- For which project are you interested?
Are you wondering (and maybe annoyed) why this application process is not automated (with online aplications and such)? We believe that personal contact to our future long term volunteers is a key issue to succesful placements. Asking for direct contact (email, phone,...) at an early stage of the placement procedure between the volunteer and the sending organisation benefits both sides:
- The sending organisation can help to find the project that suits you best (regarding your interests, experience,...)
- You have a contact person to ask all issues that are unclear (regarding fees, requirements, details about the project...). Hence, you avoid completing the whole application to finally figure out that the project/conditions actually does not really correspond to your expectations.
- If you do not fulfill the cirteria to take part in a specific project, the sending organisation will tell you this straight away and you will not complete the application form for nothing.
